St. Frances Downs Calvert Hall

By JOSH STIRN

BALTIMORE, MD - Calvert Hall has played close to perfect basketball this season. The Cardinals entered Sunday’s game at St. Frances with an 18-1 record and had rolled through two out-of-area events by winning both the Sidwell Friends Tournament and the prestigious Benedictine Capital City Classic to close out 2013.

Report: Calvert Hall Downs John Carroll

By JOSH STIRN

BEL AIR, MD - #14 Calvert Hall beat #30 John Carroll on Monday night 75-64 behind a barrage of 3-point makes  that helped them pull away in the fourth quarter.

The win brings Calvert Hall to 16-1 on the season; their only loss coming at home against Mount St. Joseph in overtime. For John Carroll, the loss meant falling to 11-7 on a season that has been on its way up - the Patriots had won six of the last seven after struggling early on against a brutally tough schedule.

DMVelite Invitational: Tournament Notebook

BY EDGAR WALKER

After a full weekend of hoops at various age levels in the DMVelite Invitational, I came away with many thoughts and impressions of the games I watched, the players I evaluated, and the tournament as a whole.

Before getting to that however, our DMVelite staff would like to whole-heartedly thank everyone involved with the tournament. The coaches, players, parents, volunteers, and fans who came out to the event were great and showed incredible community support. Additionally, we would like to thank the college coaches and media members who supported the tournament and helped players gain valuable exposure.

We hope to see everyone again in August for our DMVelite Summer Championship, which will take place from Aug. 9-11 and act as a great way to close out the summer basketball season.

Now, some of my main takeaways from the weekend:

DMVelite Invitational: 17U All-Tournament Team

A strong field in the 17U division of the DMVelite Invitational was highlighted by Team Sizzle, whose dominant tournament run was capped off by a 66-46 championship victory over Team Takeover White.

Team Sizzle guard Sean Mayberry (Calvert Hall, 2014. Pictured below.) was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, averaging 12 points per game while doing a bit of everything on both ends for his team. Mayberry created opportunities for his teammates on offense, played a solid floor game, and embraced his role as a key part of Sizzle's tenacious defense.

Our DMVelite staff collaborated on 17U All-Tournament honors, listed below:

DMVelite Invitational: Day 2 Top Performers (Part II)

Day 2 of the DMVelite Invitational saw high-level and high-energy 17U games being played throughout the day in Annapolis, Md.

Listed below are some of the day's top performers.

This is Part II of II. Click here to read Part I

Olyadoyin Fadojutimi, WG, Team Takeover White 17U (TBA, 2014) Fadojutimi (6-foot-3) hit the game-winning lay-up in double overtime for Takeover White against Team Chaos MD. A natural scorer, Fadojutimi has good range from the perimeter and also showed an ability to get to the rim and finish through contact. He had planned to transfer to St. Vincent Pallotti for the upcoming season, but is now likely staying at High Point.
