2014 DMVelite All-DC Team

As we continue to wrap up the 2013-14 high school basketball season on DMVelite, we move onto our All-District selections for Washington, D.C.

Our staff would like to thank the players, coaches and fans who made this past season – our fourth year of high school coverage – a success, and we look forward to many more. In addition to this All-DC team (which features only players from schools located in the District), we'll be rolling out All-Maryland and All-Northern Virginia teams during the week.

Prospect Report: Day 1 At The Rock

By JOSH STIRN

BELTSVILLE, Md. - The 2013 Rock Summer League kicked off on Thursday night with High Point, Sherwood, Paint Branch, Maret, McNamara, Churchill, O’Connell, Eleanor Roosevelt, Wise, and Bishop Ireton all taking the court.

The first day of action featured plenty of tight games, comeback victories, and a couple of standout performers. Thankfully, none of the games went into overtime as the temperature of the High Point gym seemed to exceed 100 degrees.

Here are some of the players that played well and caught our eye:

2014 6’7 F John King (High Point) - King made his impact felt on the defensive end the entire game with non-stop energy. He never subbed out of the game and picked up a number of steals, blocks, and assists. He also was able to attack the rim off the dribble, score in transition, and looked good rolling off of screens. He’s a long, athletic forward who finished the game with 18 points.

Maret Ends Drought

By MARCUS HELTON

WASHINGTON – Maret School has established itself as one of the top teams in the Mid-Atlantic Conference in recent years, but its failure to break through against rival Sidwell Friends had been a sore point for many of the team’s older players.

That ended Tuesday night, as the Fighting Frogs won 59-55 to snap a five-game losing skid to the Quakers behind a sizzling shooting performance from 2014 guard Steffen Davis, who made five 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 21 points.

“This means a lot,” Davis said. “Since my freshman year, we’ve never beaten Sidwell. We’ve gotten really close – you know double overtime – but we’ve never been able to push through it and I think tonight that’s what we really did. So it means a lot to us, our fans and our alums and our coaches.”
