MPSSAA 2A Final: 2nd Time's The Charm For Potomac

By MARCUS HELTON

COLLEGE PARK, MD - From the second the buzzer sounded in last year’s blowout 3A state championship loss to Milford Mill, the Potomac Wolverines began planning a return trip.

The expectations for that title run reached even higher levels when Potomac was moved down to Class 2A, and skyrocketed when the already loaded roster added midseason transfer Quadree Smith from WCAC power Paul VI in January.

DMVelite 80: Scoring Leaders

BY EDGAR WALKER

Scoring stats were kept throughout game sets during Saturday's DMVelite 80, and the day's leading scorers can be viewed below.

Keep in mind that the games were only 20 minutes long (two 10-minute running halves) and playing time was evenly distributed, so scoring numbers may seem relatively low. A good point of reference: any output 8.0 points per game is very impressive.

DMVelite Maryland All-State Team

As we continue to wrap up the 2012-13 high school basketball season on DMVelite, we move onto our All-State selections for Maryland.

RELATED: 2013 All-DMVelite Team -- All Northern Va. Team -- All-DC Team

As a result of the DMVelite-MDHoops merger in March, these teams encompass the entire state of Maryland, not just the schools in the Washington, D.C. metro area. Only players at high schools located in the state of Maryland are eligible for All-State honors (we will be releasing All-District teams for D.C. and All-Region for NoVa this week, as well).

MPSSAA State Semifinals: 3A Top Performers

By EDGAR WALKER

COLLEGE PARK - The opening games of Thursday's state tournament action at Comcast Center went as anticipated, with favored Milford Mill and Potomac both winning to set up an interest 3A title clash on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Justin Jenifer has been a stud all season for Milford Mill and continued his stellar play with a 20-point outburst in the state semifinals against Urbana. Jenifer (5-foot-8) seemed to be operating at a higher level than any other player on the floor, keeping his defender on his hip and getting wherever he wanted with the dribble. Even when Urbana defenders were trying to cut off his left hand, Jenifer still got to the rim almost at will.
